HISTORY

of OC Aviary

OC Aviary began in 2016, a small 6x4 shed in the garden housing a handful of exotic finches including zebra finches, canaries and java sparrows. Since then, the aviary (now aviaries & birdrooms) has grown and so has the number of species successfully bred here!

Prior to 2016, Oliver kept and bred chickens, ducks and quail since the age of 11, and now at 23 Oliver has bred over 40 species of birds including Chukar Partridge, Cockatiels, Bishop Weavers, Hawfinches and Twites!

Oliver is renowned for his growing knowledge base on many different bird species, although his primary interest is native finches and softbills. In August 2025, he graduated from the University of Nottingham with an MSci in Bioveterinary Science & Conservation. He regularly gives talks to bird clubs & societies across the UK, including a recent trip to the Toledo Zoo (Ohio, USA) where he gave a presentation on his conservation work.

The OC Aviary social media channels took flight in 2020, across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Since then, they have amassed over 50 MILLION views and 150,000 followers!
